BSC Weekly Update: A Few More Seats for Closing Ceremony

After eliminating some duplicate orders and making sure our award recipients and their guests are seated, we are opening up some additional seating in Munger to watch the livestream of Forward, Ever – Always: A Celebration and Farewell on Thursday, May 23.

Remember that the gates open at 5:30 p.m., and doors open at 6:30 p.m. for ticketed seating in both venues. The ceremony is from 7-8 p.m., followed by “Boogie By the Bell Tower,” a BYO lawn party on the Academic Quad with a DJ.

Please provide the names of all members of your seating party and let us know about any mobility needs.

The Stockham Shop

Ever wish you hadn’t lost your yearbook from your time on the Hilltop, or perhaps one from when your parents or grandparents were here? Wish you could snag a few BSC-branded items – pens, notebooks, notecards and such – but missed the bookstore cleanout?

On Thursday, May 23, from 5:30-8:30 p.m., we’re setting up The Stockham Shop at Stockham Hall (next to Stephens Science Center).

We’ve harvested a ton of old yearbooks and gathered up some modest-level swag and will be ready to make you a deal. Plan to cash (or Venmo) and carry, please.

Can’t make it but really want a yearbook? Message us at [email protected] by Wednesday, May 22, and we’ll make it happen (plus shipping and handling).

How You Can Help

As BSC prepares to cease normal operations on Friday, May 31, there’s a lot to do – not just planning the closing event and commencement and continuing to inventory what the College owns, but also clearing out faculty and administrative offices.

Some faculty could use some assistance in packing up and moving out of their offices, especially those who have been here for a long time. Some administrative offices could also use extra hands as they prepare to close, including shredding old files and other housekeeping chores.

If you have some daytime hours during the weeks of May 20 and 27, please let us know via this form. We’ll assess supply and demand and then follow up.

The Ringing of the Bell

To honor BSC’s 168 years of preparing young people for lives of significance, everyone who makes a gift of $168 to the Forward Ever Fund between now and May 23 will have the opportunity to ring the bell one more time.

Bell-ringing will begin at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, then pause at 6:45 p.m. for the Closing Ceremony in Battle Coliseum, and resume after the ceremony wraps around 8 p.m.

If you made a gift of $168 on Forward Ever Day, you’re already in the queue. If not, you can do that here or call (205) 226-4909 to make your gift by phone.

Every gift to the Forward Ever Fund will help with the expenses of closing, including the payout of accrued leave to employees, the vast majority of whom will depart by May 31. BSC must also continue to pay for security, maintenance of buildings and grounds, and utilities until the campus is sold.

We invite you to honor BSC’s 168 years by marking this moment with one last ring of the bell.
